Kaltura Announces New Video Player, Leads With HTML5

Online video platform Kaltura announced a new version of its video player, one that lets publishers lead with HTML5 and use Flash as a fallback. Kaltura has long been an HTML5 proponent, so it's no surprise that the player offers an HTML5 viewing experience for multiple devices. The company note that it includes chromeless components for Flash, iOS devices, and Android devices.

Kaltura has also make accessibility a priority with this release. The player meets Section 508 requirements and supports w3C's Accessible Rich Internet Application standard. The company notes that it conducted extensive tests with screen readers, and that the player was tested by members of the disabled community and accessibility experts.

Other player additions include VAST 3.0 ad support for HTML5 and Flash, live streaming for any device, enhanced Google Widevine DRM (digital rights management) support, and QR codes for delivering quick previews to users on mobile devices.

Along with the updated player, Kaltura is announcing Player Factory, a site that lets developers and end-users customize their Kaltura video player experience. The site offers plug-ins and explains player features. Developers will find demos and code snippets.

"We are excited to release a new version of Kaltura's player, which is the fastest loading video player on the market, with seamless video delivery across all leading devices and unrivaled flexibility," says Dr. Michal Tsur, Kaltura cofounder and president. "With this new version our player is truly HTML5 first, with full feature parity across devices."
