LiveU Debuts Solo at IBC, a Streaming Solution for Online Video
IBC visitors are the first to get a look at Solo, a compact, lower-cost encoding and online distribution option for web streaming properties that's debuting at the LiveU booth in Hall 3. Unlike LiveU's previous products, Solo is meant for online media, offering a professional live video experience to online-only properties. The company is targeting sports and other verticals.
Solo offers a plug-and-play experience, and comes in two configurations: one with a single-channel streaming configuration and one with full cellular bonding. It's optimized for online video distribution, and uses LiveU's LRT (LiveU Reliable Transport) protocol. LRT sends adaptive bitrate streams and anticipates problems with its forward error correction technology.
LiveU is demonstrating how the Solo works with Wowza Streaming Cloud, Wowza's online distribution service. The product isn't limited to Wowza, however, and works with many OVPs and CDNs, as well as YouTube Live. Users can manage Solo's controls remotely over the web or through a smartphone.
LiveU is taking orders for the Solo at IBC. U.S. customers will be able to buy it from an online store that will launch sometime in the future. Pricing starts at $2,500.
Wowza sees the product as a strong solution for online broadcasters.
