LongTail Gains Rights to Open Video Ads
It's an exciting move for do-it-yourself video publishers: LongTail Video, home of the popular open source JW Player, has acquired the rights to the Open Video Ads (OVA) project. OVA is also open source, and was created to help content creators deliver IAB-standard video ads.
With the two projects now owned by the same company, content creators will find it easy to serve ads with any video player, whether that's the JW Player, Flowplayer, or anything else.
LongTail has re-launched the OVA project on its website, so that users can download all the tools they need—including the framework and source code—plus read documentation and get support, from one location.
OVA was created in 2009, and is used by thousands to deliver VAST (video ad serving template)-compliant ads. It also offers ad performance tracking, broad ad network support, and flexible configuration and scheduling options.
"To help grow online video advertising, ad standards such as the ones supported by OVA must be broadly adopted into the marketplace," says Dave Otten, co-founder and CEO of LongTail Video. "With LongTail Video's acquisition of the OVA framework, million of publishers using the JW Player and Flowplayer now have a simple and affordable way to run VAST-compliant advertisements to their video players."
The creator of the OVA project, Paul Schulz, is joining LongTail Video.
"I am extremely excited about partnering with LongTail Video," says Schulz. "Given the JW Player's popularity, LongTail provides a unique opportunity to rapidly expand usage of OVA. Moving forward, we will focus on introducing a ton of great new features to the project, including support for VPAID and HTML5 video."
