Mobile Video Ad Company mDialog Awarded Two Patents
mDialog, an advertising company that delivers in-stream video ads to mobile devices, announced that it has been awarded two patents from the U.S. Patent Office: patent 8,539,523 ("System and Method for Delivering Content to Mobile Devices") and 8,495,675 ("Method and system for dynamically inserting content into streaming media").
The first patent protects mDialog's system for combining device information (such as location, velocity, or altitude) with audience-targeting information (such as program category or time of day). By doing this, mDialog is able to layer a mobile-aware interactive ad experience on top of the streaming video ad.
The second patent is part of a series of patents that the company filed for starting in 2009. It lets mDialog's customers dynamically update or modify the content they insert into video streams, creating a dialog with the audience.
“Without question adaptive bit rate (ABR) streaming was the catalyst that made live and on-demand TV on platforms like iOS, Android, Apple TV, and Roku possible. But ABR streaming lacks the ability to dynamically insert advertising content into the stream once it’s been delivered to the device," says Greg Philpott, mDialog's founder and CEO. "Our ‘675 patent ('Dynamically Inserting content into streaming media') changes all that."
