Moulin Rouge Premieres on Palm
Generic Media (www.genericmedia.com) will launch the trailer of Moulin Rouge, the 20th Century Fox movie starring Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, on PDAs at the Cannes Film festival.
Generic will show the trailer in the gMovie Player format, launched in March, which allows Palm OS devices to play video, animation and still images. The companion gMovie Maker application converts digital media files for PDA playback.
Peter Hoddie, Generic CEO, said that the novelty factor of gMovie will help movie studios in their marketing efforts. "Hollywood studios are looking for new ways to promote their films," he said. Stuart Wong, Generic Media product manager, said that gMovie Player has potential in the Asian market as a content platform. In the U.S. and Europe, PDAs are used primarily for information, but entertainment content is popular in Japan, particularly among train commuters, said Wong.
