Myplay Debuts Myplay-to-go

Music service provider Myplay Inc. (http://www.myplay.com) debuted its digital music platform for wireless and broadband devices in an announcement this week in Pasadena, CA at the DEMOmobile 2000 conference.

Dubbed "myplay-to-go," the platform provides an interface between telecommunication companies and makers of consumer software with the Myplay digital music locker across a range of wireless and broadband consumer devices.

"The future of digital music lies beyond the PC," said Doug Camplejohn, co-founder and CEO of Myplay in the announcement. "Soon, you'll be able to access your music collection via your mobile phone, your car, your TV set or a number of portable devices."

The announcement comes a day after a U.S. district judge in New York ruled that MP3.com (http://www.mp3.com) acted willfully to infringe on Universal Music Group's (http://www.universalmusic.com) copyrights when it built a CD database for its own "music locker" service, known as My.MP3.com . The judge ruled that MP3.com must pay $25,000 or each Universal CD used, posing a possible fine of up to $250,000.

Myplay contends its digital music locker is perfectly legal. The company has formed strategic partnerships with all the major music labels and stresses a commitment to legal digital distribution of music. Specifically, Myplay requires customers to make their own personal copies of music for their digital lockers, whereas MP3.com created an encoded database of CDs, subsequently deemed illegal by Tuesday's court decision.
