NAB Report: Telestream Announces Vantage 4 Transcoder

Article Featured Image

Video transcoding specialist Telestream took the wraps off its Vantage 4.0 transcoder at the NAB show currently underway in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since speed is key, Vantage now includes LightSpeed acceleration technology. LightSpeed is a new offering that uses parallel GPUs (including those from AMD and NVidia) and multicore CPUs (including those from Intel and AMD).

According to Barbara DeHart, vice president of marketing, Telesteram's policy is to look at the entire workflow, not just the transcoding itself. To that purpose, Vantage 4.0 includes greater workflow automation abilities, such as CALM Act loudness and Accessibility Act online caption support.

"With transcoding you can save minutes, but with workflow you can save hours," says DeHart.

With this release, Telestream adds support for the x264 codec, which should result in faster transcodes and better results.

Telestream also debuted the Vantage Transcode HE Server, a 1 RU (rack unit) server that can be used by itself or in a cluster. The server also offers LightSpeed technology and x264 support. This is the first time Telestream has offered transcoding on a ready-to-install hardware device, which DeHart says should make deployment faster.
