The lockout is over, so let's get on with the show.

After a four-month lockout (and a printed apology to hockey fans everywhere), the 2012-2013 NHL 48-game season begins Saturday (yes, they're still calling it the 2012-2013 season). Hockey lovers who can muster any enthusiasm should take a look at this year's NHL GameCenter Live service, which is powered by NeuLion. A season pass goes for $49.99.

A subscription lets fans watch the action on phones, tablets, and connected TVs and devices (including the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Roku). Android and iOS apps are already available, and a BlackBerry 10 app is coming at some point in the season.

For their money, fans get the ability to watch live or archived games that include teams outside the viewer's home market. They can get replays on-demand, pause the action, and view highlights.

The apps now offer more free video for non-subscribers. Fan can view post-game video highlights or see a live game simulation with real-time shift changes, play-by-play, and box scores. The apps also include the new ability to create customizable settings for five favorite teams.

By upgrading to a premium account for $4.99, fans can hear live radio broadcasts of home or away games. Upgrading for $49.99 to GameCenter Live gets them live out-of-market game video (for home or away) and mobile access.

"NHL GameCenter Live offers the most robust live-game viewing experience, whether it is used as a complementary second-screen or the primary method of watching games," says Steve McArdle, senior vice president of NHL Digital.
