Netflix and Miramax Announce Multi-Year Agreement
A significant agreement for Netflix means that its customers will soon be able to watch hundreds of Miramax films instantly. Titles in the deal include "Pulp Fiction," "Shakespeare in Love," "The English Patient," "Good Will Hunting," "Bad Santa," "Scream," "Spy Kids," "The Piano," and "Kill Bill."
The agreement will take effect in June and will apply to U.S. customers only. They won't be able to view the entire collection at any time, however, as Miramax will instead offer a rotating list of dozens of titles. Miramax-lovers will need to keep an eye on the new titles section of the Watch Instantly page to find out when their favorites are available.
As with other Watch Instantly titles, the Miramax selection will be viewable on multiple platforms, including TVs, tablets, computers, and smartphones.
Neither company disclosed the financial terms or the exact length of time of the agreement.
"Netflix is thrilled to enter into this deal with the new team at Miramax," says Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos. "Existing relationships with management and a shared affinity for these great films make this an important deal for both companies and for our members, who will enjoy instantly watching movies from one of the truly great film libraries for many years to come."
The companies note that this selection of films has earned 284 Academy Award nominations and 68 wins.
