Ooyala Discovers Which Cities Stream the Most NFL Football
Who would win the Streaming Bowl?
That's the question posed by online video platform Ooyala as it fills the slow news days of December with a fun report looking at which cities stream the most NFL football.
To answer it, Ooyala sliced the data several ways, analyzing traffic from 5 recent football Sundays for the top 15 markets for NFL rivalries. Ooyala first looked at total starts for all types of video (not just sports) and found that the biggest cities—New York City and Chicago—took the lead. But when it filtered those views for sports content it found that Pittsburgh and Green Bay had the highest percentages.
Ooyala also looked at the amount of sports videos streamed per capita in each market. This time Cincinnati took the lead, as nearly 10 percent of its citizens streamed sports video 67 percent of the time. The report points out that while New York City leads in total video streaming, it's on the bottom of the per capita rankings.
In the end, Ooyala awards the Streaming Bowl to Pittsburgh and Green Bay, and notes that Boston is the top major metropolitan area for sports streaming.
