Ooyala and iStreamPlanet Partner for Live Video Streaming
Another sign that live streamed video is going to be major in 2013: online video platform Ooyala and video workflow provider iStreamPlanet announced a partnership today based on live video delivery. Under the agreement, Ooyala will benefit from iStreamPlanet's live workflow service and will add live video to its video-on-demand features, while iStreamPlanet will integrate with the Ooyala platform, gaining analytics and monetization features.
The combined solution includes global content acquisition; support for a wide range of formats, including Apple HLS and multi bitrate RTMP; distribution support for a wide range of platforms and players; analytics that record viewer location, engagement, and device; and revenue-creation tools that include mid-roll advertising and integrated paywalls.
Mobile live streaming is on the rise, notes an Ooyala senior vice president. The company charted 100 percent growth in the area when comparing the most recent quarter to the previous one. By partnering with iStreamPlanet, Ooyala hopes to satisfy customers that are looking to add live streaming to their sites and need mobile viewing support.
Earlier this month, iStreamPlanet began offering global ingest and publishing for RTMP-based live video. That solution lets broadcasters upload a live RTMP stream, which is turned into multi-bitrate HLS and RTMP streams by iStreamPlanet.
