Panopto Releases Version 4.5, Improves Management, Accessibility

Panopto, which creates video presentation recording solutions for enterprises and educational facilities, announced the release of Panopto 4.5. This version focuses on improving results for massive libraries, as well as improving access for those with vision or hearing impairments.

For companies or universities with thousands of hours of video stored in multiple locations, Panopto is adding batch upload ability, letting clients merge their assets into one unified system. With the new upload ability, clients can upload hundreds of videos at one time. That video can then be automatically transcribed for text searching.

Panopto is going high-definition with this release: its remote recorders can now capture HD video. While this might not seem essential for executive speeches or lectures, Panopto points out that it lets educational facilities participating in MOOCs (massive open online courses) save and reuse lectures, rather than redoing them.

Three improvements to version 4.5 help it meet Section 508 accessibility standards. Those with visual impairments can navigate the Panopto video content management system (VCMS) or interactive viewer with their keyboards to access recordings. The VCMS and interactive viewer now support screen readers, as well. Finally, Panopto offers closed captions during playback.

Panopto has also added security enhancements, such as sitewide SSL support and password expiration, to meet increasing corporate demands.
