PictureTel Launches Subsidiary, 1414c
PictureTel Corporation (http://www.picturetel.com) announced the formation of a new subsidiary called 1414c. The new company is taking the eVideo streaming solution from PictureTel to provide streaming, videoconferencing, voice-over-IP (VoIP), and other rich media solutions.
The name 1414c comes from the temperature (Celsius) at which silicon becomes completely liquid, says Bob Byrnes, CEO of the new company. "It becomes translucent, luminescent, and fluid. 1414c is likewise focused on reaching beyond traditional boundaries--delivering new experiences in seamless communication and knowledge transfer," says Byrnes. "We are powering an economy that trades in knowledge rather than information."
1414c also unveiled a hosted conferencing-over-IP application trial at Korn/Ferry International. The company is working with PSINet and Global Videocom on a trial of the 1414c eVideo Conferencing Solution.
"Demand for Web-enabled applications is driving huge ASP growth," said Byrnes. "Franchised applications empower ASPs to broaden their customer value proposition and accelerate 1414c's market penetration." 1414c says it will exist as an ASP and will also enable other ASPs to provide these services.
The new company, along with PictureTel, is headquartered in Andover, Massachusetts.
