Piranha 3DD Streams on Facebook, a First for 3D Streaming Video
Piranha 3DD is hitting U.S. theaters today (it currently has a 20 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, for what it's worth) and it's also available on Facebook. That makes this comedy-horror film the first 3D movie to debut on Facebook the same day it hits theaters.
3D movie-lovers who would rather stay home can get the film in HD for $6.99 and in 3D for $7.99. They can pay in Facebook credits, by credit card, or with PayPal.
Starz is working with Milyoni, a San Francisco, California-based social entertainment company, to create a shared experience for online viewers. Using Milyoni's Social Cinema tools, Facebook viewers can chat with friends, comment on the movie, and tag and share favorite clips.
For those who want to watch the movie in 3D at home but lack 3D glasses, Milyoni is also providing a link explaining how to make a pair.
To further entice Facebook streaming, Starz has partnered with Maxim on a contest. Every Facebook purchaser can win a trip for two to Las Vegas for a Maxim-hosted event this summer.
Piranha 3DD is a sequel to Piranha 3D (2010). It's rated R and stars Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and David Hasselhoff.
