Polycom Acquires Accordent
Polycom, the multinational provider of telepresence and voice communications solutions, has announced that it has acquired Accordent Technologies for approximately $50 million in cash. Accordent delivers video content management and delivery solutions.
Polycom states that it expects the deal to be neutral in terms of earnings for 2011, and to show a slight profit for 2012.
The transaction shows Polycom's desire to grow in the video content management and delivery space. It stated that it plans to integrate its open standards UC (unified communications) Intelligent Core and UC endpoints with Accordent's open standards video content management solution. Accordent's solution allows for video capture in a range of environments, including studios, classrooms, and videoconferences.
This acquisition expands Polycom's total available market by $500 million, says Wainhouse Research. It projects a compounded annual growth of 32 percent through 2014 to $1.2 billion.
"We believe Accordent has the most elegant video content management solution on the market and by leveraging customer, channel, partner, and product synergies with Polycom, this transaction positions Polycom at the forefront of end-to-end video and content management," says Sudhakar Ramakrishna, Polycom's chief development officer.
Accordent announced revenues of $9 million in 2010 and has over 1,200 customers in the enterprise and public sectors. It's staff of 50 will say in El Segundo, California. Polycom is based in Pleasanton, California.
"From our first meeting with Polycom, we shared a common vision about the future of unified collaboration and the paradigm shift in the way people communicate and work," says Mike Newman, Accordent's previous chief executive officer.
