Qumu Updates Enterprise Videoconferencing and Presentation Products

Enterprise videoconferencing gets a little easier as Qumu updates its flagship product with major features and releases a new version of its Create multimedia presentation tool.

Qumu Video Control Center has long been an enterprise favorite for videoconferencing, making it easy to use video both inside and outside an organization. With the 5.3 update, it's gaining new features thanks to a partnership with Polycom.

Polycom has already been able to resell Qumu's videoconferencing tools under its own label, and now Qumu is integrating Polycom tools. Users can also now schedule a videoconference from within Microsoft Outlook, as well as go back to a previously scheduled conference and play it back from Outlook.

The latest version works with Polycom's new RSS 4000 network-based encoder, which facilitates session recording on a network. Users can set the RSS 4000 in advance. As it records, it transcodes H.264 video into Windows Media files for streaming across a corporate network.

Other new capabilities include support for AT&T's internet content distribution network and support for both Windows Media and Flash both live and on-demand. It also supports the StreamZ and StreamZ HD families of encoders from Digital Rapids, as well as the Inlet's Spinnaker family of encoders. That support means that customers can schedule, start, and stop recordings from the Video Control Center, letting managers fully automate the process. In all, there are over 100 improvements to this version.

Qumu Create
A desktop capture program that records up to two USB cameras as well as screen captures or PowerPoint slides, Qumu Create is a popular option for making multimedia presentations. It's finding a home at colleges and universities, especially, as professors use it to create enhanced lessons of supplemental material that students can download.

With Create's latest update, users can now perform simple trims and edits to their recordings, letting them remove a bad beginning or a flubbed section. They can also join multiple recordings into one file, and create chapters with titles.

If you're interested in trying Create, the company offers a 30-day free trial.
