RealNetworks Brings Ortiva Video Optimization to Helix Line

RealNetworks is joining hands with Ortiva Wireless, bringing Ortiva's video optimization technology to Real's Helix Universal Media Server product line. The deal is expected to benefit Real's carrier customers, content owners, enterprise customers, and mobile subscribers. Customers will gain an enhanced ability to manage their video content and lower bandwidth costs. That bandwidth savings will let carriers serve to more viewers on their current radio access networks.

Real will begin using Ortiva's technology in the second quarter of this year.

"Carriers, content owners, delivery providers, and enterprise organizations are dealing with an exponential growth of video and digital media content on their networks," says Martin Schwarz, Real's area vice president of mobile/consumer devices and Helix products. "The combination of Ortiva's optimization products with Real's Helix Universal Servers further extends our platform's ability to efficiently manage video traffic and delivery for our customers."

The Helix Media Delivery Platform is used for multi-screen delivery, including streaming to mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with RealNetworks," says Marc Zionts, Ortiva's CEO. "Ortiva's solutions are commercially available and shipping to carriers around the world. Now, Real's many enterprise and carrier customers will benefit from Ortiva's video optimization technology."
