Rihanna Beats Kim Kardashian and Harry Potter Banishes Lady Gaga
We know that video is taking off on mobile devices, and a new report offers interesting data on just what we're watching. Vuclip, an independent mobile video service, has just released its Global Video Insights Report for July. Among other offerings, it contrasts the top mobile video searches in the U.S. for July, 2011, with searches from July, 2010.
The top five mobile video searches for July, 2011, were Rihanna, Harry Potter, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, and Beyoncé. Compare that to a year ago, when people were looking for videos on Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Shakira, and Justin Bieber.
The results suggest a few things. One, Justin Bieber has more staying power than many of us would have guessed. And two, mobile video searches are dominated by younger people.

Vuclip suggests that its reports are valuable tools for those who need to study global and regional consumer trends.
"We've found that these trends offer a window into shifts in cultural figures and events that capture the zeitgeist," says Nickhil Jakatdar, co-founder and CEO of Vuclip. "These trends also show that the still nascent mobile video advertising market is gaining momentum. Mobile video, when it goes viral, can be an incredibly powerful marketing tool."
