Roku 2 Goes Public as FCC Pics Hit the Internet

While the people at Roku probably don't appreciate the early attention, Engadget found that three new Roku models had been submitted to the FCC for testing, with all of their specs visible for the world to see.

The models are codenamed 3000X, 3050X, and 3100X, and may eventually be sold under the names Roku 2 HD, XD, and XS.

While the models are smaller and more rounded than previous Rokus, about the size of an Apple TV, the biggest change for consumers will be the addition of a reset button. For those who find their set-top boxes freezing occasionally, it will be a welcome modification.

The top two models stream 1080p video, while the lower model streams 720p. Surprisingly, Roku has dropped dual-band Wi-Fi, found in the current high-end model (the Roku XDS). Only the top model includes Ethernet and USB 2.0 ports. All models include the Broadcom 2835 SoC (system-on-a-chip) and Bluetooth.

The lower two models will include an 11-button infrared remote, while the top model will come with an RF remote, which doesn't require a line-of-sight to work.

There's no mention of software changes or pricing. The current line of Roku boxes goes for $59.99, $79.99, and $99.99.
