Sorenson Adds Mobile Reference Apps for Capture and Upload

As part of its Squeeze Server product, Sorenson Media has introduced Mobile Reference Apps which help companies collect and use video from mobile workers. A white label service, the feature includes code that companies can use to create their own branded iPhone or Android apps.

The apps feature is included with both the on-premises and cloud-based Squeeze Server products. The advantage of using an app for content upload is that the original files are uploaded and then encoded on the backend. This ensures there's no data loss, so companies get the best results. Encoded content can them be published to any destination, such as the company's content delivery network (CDN), online video platform (OVP), or network folder.

"By encoding the video within the device, competing solutions substantially degrade video quality, rendering the ability of Android and iPhone devices to capture high-quality 720p video essentially meaningless," says Charles Sismondo, vice president of engineering at Sorenson Media. "By leveraging our mobile technology to take care of source preservation at the front-end of the workflow as well as our encoding technology and publishing backend, Mobile Reference Apps empower users to capture, upload, encode, manage, and publish the industry's highest-quality video, propelling online video into a higher orbit."
