Sorenson Server 1.5 Adds Three Flavors of Adaptive Streaming

Sorenson Squeeze jumps into adaptive streaming in a big way with today's version 1.5 release. Sorenson Media's on-premises enterprise transcoder now includes presets for Adobe Dynamic Streaming, Apple HTTP Adaptive Streaming, and Microsoft Smooth Streaming.

Squeeze Server 1.5 includes hundreds of presets for transcoding video for any major device, including smartphones, tablets, set-top boxes, and connected TVs.

Other features of the 1.5 release include deep scan watch folder compatibility, linked audio tracks, and easy path naming.

"Sorenson Media has lived in the digital production ecosystem for quite a long time. Much of what we're bringing to market with Sorenson Squeeze Server 1.5 offers deep-in-the-weeds features and functionality that we know are important to those workflows," says Eric Quanstrom, Sorenson's COO.

Sorenson made the announcement at the IBC 2011 tradeshow in Amsterdam, where it's exhibiting.

"By adding the smoothest, most complete adaptive bitrate transcoding in the market, together with other high-octane performance features, like GPU acceleration for H.264 encoding, Sorenson Media is increasing the distance between our Squeeze Server 1.5 enterprise encoding solution and legacy products of our competitors," says Peter Csathy, Sorenson's CEO. "As mobile devices proliferate, no other solution out there makes it easier for enterprises to reach every screen with optimized video."
