Unicorn and Apptelic Partner for Video App Monetization

Online video monetization solutions company Unicorn Media announced today that it's partnering with Apptelic, a multiplatform app creator, to build monetization app solutions. Specifically, the two will work on Windows solutions, combining Unicorn's Once technology and Apptelic's video player for Windows. The solution is intended to let networks and broadcasters generate revenue from their video-enabled apps.

Unicorn Once is a server-side product that broadcasters can use to stream live or on-demand video, and to monetize their content. It gets its name because it uses a single URL to stream to any device. Broadcasters can insert targeted ads without relying on an SDK, plug-in, or client-side program.

Apptelic has plenty of experience with Windows, as it's a Microsoft vendor, registered Windows Phone and Xbox app developer, and a Microsoft Bizpark Partner. It specializes in helping broadcasters already using HLS streams for iOS devices use those same streams to reach Windows 8 devices and the Xbox. It counts CBS, the NBA, and Warner Bros. as customers.

"With the union of Unicorn Once and the Apptelic plug-in, there is no need to create additional formats specific to a small subset of devices," says David Morel, chief strategy officer at Unicorn Media. "Instead, the efficiencies of the Unicorn Once platform are exposed and easily available to applications built for these devices."
