Verizon Debuts Video Service for Android SmartPhones

Verizon Wireless's Android customers have a new way to watch premium content on-the-go today, as the carrier has announced Verizon Video, a new on-demand service powered by RealNetworks. The service offers TV episodes, live sports, and news. 

To create the service, Verizon partnered with ABC, NBC, CBS, MTV, Comedy Central, Animal Planet, CNBC, Disney Channel, ESPN, and other channels. In all, Verizon Video will offer over 250 TV episodes. Sports video includes NBC's Sunday Night Football and NFL RedZone.

Android-using customers can download the Verizon Video app from the Android Market. It's available for the 4G LTE and select 3G smartphones. For some devices, Verizon Video will replace the older Verizon V Cast. Those customers will be required to upgrade their apps the next time they launch.

Verizon Video will be available for a free preview, and after that will cost $10 per month or $3 per day.

"Verizon has offered great video apps on our devices for many years, and now Verizon Video is the next way to discover, experience, and enjoy high-quality video entertainment on Android smartphones," says Kristi Crum, executive director of consumer solutions for Verizon Wireless.
