Vimeo Revamps iOS 7 App, Adds Instant Playback, Offline Viewing
Many developers are updating their apps for Apple iOS 7, given them a new coat of paint and a flatter look, but some are adding functionality at the same time. Video sharing site Vimeo is taking the occasion to add a few useful features. Vimeo members can now have the most recent videos created by people on their watch lists available for instant viewing. Playback is available even when the device is offline. To avoid overloading their phones or tablets, members can set how many videos are automatically stored. YouTube announced that it will add a similar feature to its apps in November.
The Vimeo app also now includes thumbnails that offer video previews, and the ability to share videos with other iOS 7 devices using AirDrop.
Apple has extended Vimeo's reach by building Vimeo integration into its Camera and Photo apps. iOS 7 users can now upload videos from those apps directly to their Vimeo accounts.
"We are proud that iOS 7 users can now instantly upload videos directly to Vimeo from their iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, and can't wait for our users to try it out,” says Nick Alt, Vimeo’s vice president of mobile and connected TV.
The Vimeo app is a free download in the iTunes Store.
