Today Vobile, a company that specializes in video and audio content identification, introduced the TVSync API platform, designed for creating smart TV and second screen apps. Vobile says it brings the connected TV experience to smartphones, tablets, computers, and smart TVs. The platform was designed for broadcasters, cable companies, publishers, and content providers, and works with the Apple iOS and Google Android operating systems.

The platform takes advantage of Vobile's video and audio Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) technology so that it's able to synchronize what viewers see on their TVs with app content on their connected devices.

Vobile says the platform can be used to create a variety of apps, whether for ecommerce, information, or social media. As an example, it suggests that tickets or sports apparel could be synched with sports broadcasts, or that viewers could program their DVRs to record an entire season of a program just by sampling the audio for a few seconds and then choosing an on-screen option. Additionally, someone watching a program at a friend's house could continue watching it on their mobile device automatically.

Vobile's content identification technology is already used by all six major Hollywood studios and four broadcast TV networks. Every minute, TVSync identifies and tags over 150 hours of audio and video.
