Westinghouse Supports Roku Streaming Stick with LED TV Line
Westinghouse Digital announced that it will offer a line of LED TVs in 2013 that support the Roku Streaming Stick. Getting partners on board is crucial for the set-top box-maker if it's going to build consumer support for its compact streaming device.
Roku introduced the Streaming Stick in January, 2012, and began shipping in October. About the size of a flash drive, the stick plugs into MHL-enabled HDMI ports on new televisions that offer that port. Rather than trying to get shoppers to understand what a Mobile High-Definition Link HDMI port is, televisions that offer it are simply advertised as "Roku Ready."
Westinghouse hasn't taken the wraps off the new line just yet, as it hasn't announced how many sets will make up the line or what their features or prices will be. That will come next week at the International CES show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Roku Streaming Stick provides access to the same content that a Roku set-top box does. The advantages of the stick are that it's more compact and works with the TV's remote, delivering a connected TV experience. The stick is also easy to upgrade when new features and capabilities are introduced.
Westinghouse will show its line at the Las Vegas Hotel, suite 360, during CES.
