Yahoo! Sports Renames Basketball Tournament After Itself
Taking a page out of the trend of dot-com companies sponsoring college football bowls, Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com) Sports now has a basketball tournament named after it. The Yahoo! Sports Invitational, formerly known as the Pearl Harbor Invitational, will be the first full Division 1 basketball tournament to be webcast live on the Web when it's held December 21-23.
To be played on the campus of Brigham Young University-Hawaii on Oahu, Yahoo! Sports will webcast the entire 12 games of the tournament in live streaming video, with separate live audio feeds.
"Yahoo! Sports offers the ability to deliver high-quality audio and video broadcasting over the Internet," said Mike Kelley, senior brand manager, Yahoo! Sports, in a statement. "We also provide advertising clients a unique forum to establish their brands through Yahoo! network of services."
Launched in 1997, Yahoo! Sports, has established itself as a formidable streaming aggregator. The site currently offers live and archived streaming, in Windows Media and Real Player formats, mostly in audio, for more than 540 professional and college sports leagues and teams.
