Recognizing the growing importance of over-the-top set-top players, video publishing company thePlatform announced today that its publishing system now supports a growing range of connected devices.

Customers of thePlatform can now send video to over-the-top (OTT) services and IP-connected devices including set-top boxes, TVs, and Blu-ray Players. This includes the upcoming Google TV platform, the company was quick to point out.

While most video managed by thePlatform is delivered to PCs, the company expects that mix to shift dramatically in the coming years as IP-connected devices gain in popularity and video-centric mobile devices take hold.

thePlatform's mpx Beta service lets customers upload multiple media files at one time and distribute them to websites, phones, and other IP-connected devices. Updated profiles for several OTT platforms were unveiled today.

Today's announcement includes support for the upcoming Boxee Box by D-Link; DivX consoles, TVs, and Blu-ray Players; Free Stream Media's FlingoTV; Roku devices; Syabas Technologies' upcoming Popbox; TiVo boxes; and Vudu-enabled TVs and Blu-ray players from LG. thePlatform announced it will support Google TV when it launches.

"Media and entertainment companies are looking well beyond today's PCs and conventional set-top-boxes to reach their audiences," says Ian Blaine, thePlatform's CEO. "At the end of the day, our customers produce and distribute compelling video that they want to monetize, and it's our job to alleviate the complexity to make that happen across any device or platform. Our support for these OTT services is just the beginning, and we look forward to assisting our customers' efforts across any number of next-generation, IP-connected devices."
