The 2014 Streaming Media Readers' Choice Awards Winners

Article Featured Image

The online video industry’s growth shows no signs of slowing down. So it’s only fitting that the Streaming Media Readers’ Choice Awards continue to grow along with it. This year’s awards encompass 31 categories, almost twice as many as when they began in 2007.

Even though we had more categories, we had fewer nominations than in past years, as we were stricter about how we defined each category—you can see the category definitions here—as well as the products and services we allowed into each one. For instance, product X might include some rudimentary editing functions, but if its primary value proposition is as an encoder, we didn’t allow it in the video editing software category.

Once all the votes were cast, we sent out confirmation emails to each voter to filter out any “dummy” email addresses and then made sure that companies weren’t stuffing the ballot box voting for themselves, something that gives an automatic advantage to larger companies with more employees.

We announced the finalists—the three top vote-getters in each category—on Oct. 31, and presented the winners today at Streaming Media West in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Thanks to our sponsors, Akamai and Teradek, for making these awards possible, and congratulations to all the winners.
