Kaltura and Harmonic Team Up for Live OTT Video Service Creation
NAB doesn't start until next week, but it's already clear that OTT will be a major trend. In the previous weeks, Adobe and Brightcove have both launched services designed to help content owners quickly debut over-the-top products. Now, Kaltura and Harmonic have partnered on a similar software-as-a-service offering for live linear OTT. Kaltura and Harmonic are partially targeting content owners that want to start small and build over time.
The SaaS offering combines Harmonic's VOS 360 cloud media processing service and Kaltura's OTT video platform. Content owners can use it to upload, transcode, package, scramble, and stream live HD and SD video to multiple screens, while monetizing their products. The result can be run over public or private clouds. The two companies say it will lead to lower-cost live linear OTT deployments for multiple screens. It's a turnkey system that shortens the launch time for new services from months to hours, they say.
“We are seeing a growing number of content owners, TV networks, publishers, and service providers asking for a flexible SaaS platform that will allow them to manage their entire OTT service—high quality live linear OTT channels," says Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura's co-founder, chairman, and CEO. "This integration with Harmonic means that we can jointly offer a complete cloud-based platform that does just this, and can be run on a variety of different cloud environments."
