Sorenson/ProKarma Partnership Helps You Create Custom Apps
A partnership between Sorenson Media and ProKarma Interactive will make it easier for content creators to deliver their videos to mobile devices. Announced at the Streaming Media East 2010 conference in New York City, the two companies have entered a strategic technology agreement that combines Sorenson's video delivery with ProKarma's mobile development talents.
The two have created Sorenson Smash, a customizable framework for rapid iPad app creation, and an app of the same name. The Sorenson Smash app was created as a proof-of-concept tool to show clients what's possible in iPad app creation. It offers video streaming and advertising opportunities.
Customers will be able to manage video assets through a simple drag-and-drop interface. They can then create custom playlists, change text, add banner advertisements, and integrate with third-party ad networks. The finished work can be submitted to Apple's iTunes store.
"We are excited to collaborate with ProKarma Interactive, an emerging global leader in the mobile technology marketplace, to address a serious gap in the marketplace by creating useful video-driven mobile apps," said Kirk Punches, Sorenson Media's vice president of business development. "This partnership brings together two companies that are best in class in our respective industries for the quality and interoperability of our solutions, to empower customers with customized apps for which video is very important."
While Sorenson and ProKarma are starting off with iPad development because it's a hot area, they plan to offer app creation for other mobile platforms, as well.
