Myplay Gets $18 Million in Private Funding
Myplay (http://www.myplay.com) completed a round of financing worth more than $18 million, the company said today. It was led by Vulcan Ventures, Inc., the investment organization of Paul G. Allen, one of the men behind Microsoft.
In addition to Vulcan, private investors also contributed to this financing round.
myplay says it wants to use the money to get into the wireless and space.
"Myplay's innovative digital music services complement perfectly the manyother music, retail and online companies in our investment portfolio," saidWilliam Savoy, president of Vulcan Ventures Inc. "We look forward to workingwith myplay as they expand their offerings."
Myplay, which launched in October 1999, was first to launch theonline "music locker' concept. This is similar to MP3.com's My.MP3.com service which the RIAA effectively shut down with a lawsuit.
