Audible.com Unveils New Codecs for Spoken Word Content
Audible (http://www.audible.com) announced three new audio file formats (or codecs) for listening to spoken audio content.
The three new codecs are optimized for downloaded audio (on AudibleReady hardware players) and streaming with RealPlayer or Windows Media Player. The company says it can provide smaller file-sizes and faster downloads, as a result.
The three new codecs are: ACELP.net 8.5 (kbps), ACELP.net 16 (kbps) and MP3 32 (kbps). The ACELP.net codecs are developed by Montreal-based VoiceAge Corporation.
"With these new options that allow the listener to personalize the Audible experience based on the speed of their Internet connection and the user's choice of AudibleReady portable digital players, Audible has advanced our leading market position to create the best environment for accessing premium, secure spoken word audio," commented Thomas Baxter, president and CEO of Audible, Inc.
Audible also announced that it has started offering a big library of National Public Radio programs, today.
