Animation Showdown on AtomFilms

AtomFilms (www.atomfilms.com), this week, launched a new community building initiative, Animation Showdown, that is designed to bring in fresh content and involve Atom's registered "Insiders" in the process of developing new talent.

Starting this week, Atom's registered "Insiders" can vote on their favorite of five Flash animated shorts featured in the Showdown. The winner will receive $20,000 to develop a series of four Flash animations based on the pilot that will be aired on AtomFilms in January. The contest will be repeated each month until January, resulting in three separate animated series. AtomFilms has the option to fund further episodes based on community response.

The pre-selected finalists this month are based on the theme "Would-Be Superheroes". Two of the finalists come from studios whose work has previously been shown on Atom's site: Mongadillo Studios and Hyperbole Studios. The remaining three shorts were created by animators new to AtomFilms: Bradley Anderson, Peter Lacalamita, and Kenn McDonald. The five finalists for each month's contest are selected from the submissions of professional and undiscovered animators alike.
