Avid ePublisher Now Shipping

Avid (www.avid.com), which has traditionally offered high-end hardware and software solutions for professional video editing, has just released a software-only solution focused on producing video for digital formats: Web, CD, and DVD. Avid ePublisher, touted as the all-in-one streaming media publishing product, is currently shipping with pricing starting at $550.

Along with traditional video editing capabilities such as timeline editing that allows the user to cut, paste and trim video clips, add titles and transition effects, Avid ePublisher introduces a new interactive editing capability, Link & Sync Editing. This new feature enables users to synchronize the video with elements in other frames of a Web page, including graphics, slides animations and other HTML content imported from editing and presentation tools. The product also allows for easy publishing to a variety of digital formats including the Windows Media, RM from RealNetworks., QuickTime and MPEG-1 & 2.

"With Avid ePublisher, professional communicators can now harness the full power of the Web for their video streaming content," said Alan Hoff, product manager for ePublisher. "It will eliminate the multi-step, multi-tool process these new media content producers typically employ to create this type of video-enhanced, HTML-based interactive content. Because ePublisher creates HTML-based content, it is easy to publish this content to the Web, CD or DVD for applications like eLearning, Corporate Communications and other Video-On-Demand (VOD) uses."

The Avid ePublisher software is available for the Windows 98 and the Windows 98SE operating systems with an Intel Celeron, Pentium II or higher processor, or an equivalent processor with MMX support. Digital video capture is supported through native or third party IEEE 1394 cards, which are Microsoft OHCI compliant. Analog video capture is supported through either the Avid-supplied USB video capture device or through an Osprey 100 PCI capture card available from ViewCast.com's Osprey Technologies Division.
