CNN Endorses EyeWonder

CNN announced that it has chosen EyeWonder (www.eyewonder.com), as the leading technology provider for the deliver of streaming video and audio ads. This announcement followed a month-long trial in which CNN ran embedded video in traditional banner ads on CNN.com, CNNfn.com and CNNSI.com. Participating advertisers included Volvo, Comdisco and mydiscountbroker.com. The trial was promoted by Turner Broadcasting Sales, the marketing and advertising division of Turner Broadcasting Systems, a division of AOL/Time Warner.

The EyeWonder technology allows for the delivery of instant streaming video and audio without user-initiated media players or plug-ins. While CNN will accept other technologies, they will be promoting EyeWonder to their advertisers as an effective method to presuppose television promotions.

Accompanying this announcement, CNN released an in-house ad in a non-user initiated pop-up window. Currently they have not signed on any new advertisers to this method, but a spokesperson from Turner said that there was interest from its advertisers.

"CNN recognizes the significant value that EyeMedia offers. The ability to generate branded impressions online and align messages across mediums will enable them to attract more traditional offline ad dollars," said EyeWonder CEO John Vincent in a statement.
