Rich Media Publishing and Management: Definitely Here Today - Part 1
What hasn’t changed?
Unfortunately, despite these drivers and falling barriers, analysts have yet to observe a massive increase in spending on rich media publishing and management solutions to date. "One challenge is that enterprise IT organizations have grown accustomed to thinking of streaming media as something that is a feature built into their Windows operating systems. This mind frame," explains Vonder Haar, "raises the bar for vendors of rich media publishing and management systems. They must develop applications that can significantly out-perform the publishing tools that corporations can use for free or with minimal added investment."
Another obstacle Vonder Haar points to is that it is difficult to bring affordable, world-class publishing capabilities and leading edge content management under a single application framework. These are two different disciplines, and it's difficult to marshal enough resources to be skilled at both.
The Current Players
So, who are some of the vendors knocking on customer doors to sell their value proposition on the basis of such an integrated framework?
Between the time that this article is written and published, and certainly during the period that it is available for the public to read on the streamingmedia.com web site, there will be additions and deletions from the definitive list of rich media publishing and management providers. The intention with the table below is not to develop or maintain the definitive and exhaustive list of all rich media publishing and management solutions but to aim in this general direction.
