Class Act: Making Educational Video More Accessible

Article Featured Image

Folks are already working on this problem. The Opencast community project has an active metadata project. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has established a metadata standard, PBCore (www.pbcore.org), for which there are free cataloging tools. Yet there doesn’t appear to be any way to search for content across different broadcasters and producers.

As educational video content continues to proliferate at an ever-accelerating rate, the search problem only becomes more critical. The good news is that it’s not too late for educational institutions to cooperate in finding methods to make their videos more easily cataloged and searched and, therefore, more accessible.
