Accordent Adds Greater Control to V3.5 of Media Management Server
The latest update to Accordent's Media Management System (AMMS) is so big, says Steve Pattison, Accordent's vice president of strategic alliances, that it probably shouldn't be a point upgrade at all.
Accordent is an enterprise webcasting company that lets major corporations easily deliver media internally in mixed network environments. The idea behind AMMS is to remove format and device fragmentation for busy IT managers, and let them deliver a simple user experience to their viewers.
Launched at Streaming Media East 2010 in New York City, AMMS v3.5 is a major expansion of the product. While AMMS has always been a tool for capturing rich media and managing it through a portal solution, it's now able to handle content delivery on third-party content delivery networks including Riverbed, Blue Coat, and Cisco CDNs as well as native Microsoft Windows Media Server environments..
AMMS now comes with two software new software components. AMMS Media Director is an administration console for managing content delivery, while AMMS Media Services is an edge software server that connects edge locations even across a hybrid environment.
Other improvements include the ability to ingest content from anywhere in the network and to create an approval process for added content. A new dynamic media viewer lets users see rich media regardless of the format. Content isn't transcoded into one format, but rather the player can handle all types. AMMS also now includes administrative audit reports, so that administrators can see what objects have changed and when.
"AMMS version 3.5 represents a significant release for Accordent, as it gives the enterprise everything needed to manage all of their video content productively and safely while dramatically extending their ability to control video assets that are proliferating across the enterprise," says Mike Lorenz, Accordent's chief technology officer.
