Media Platform Takes a Consulting Role for Adobe Flash Platform

While MediaPlatform is better known for its webcasting software and media management platform, it's taking a consulting role in helping enterprises evaluate and implement the Adobe Flash Platform for internal use.

While Flash has long ruled online, Windows Multicast has been the major player in live and on-demand internal webcasting, since it doesn't strain existing systems nearly as much. But with the latest Flash Platform, released a few months ago, Adobe is making a play for those enterprise customers. Its solution works like Windows, but with peer assist. That means that every computer watching a live event is a node, says Greg Pulier, chief technology officer at Media Platform, streaming the content to other viewers.

MediaPlatform is offering a solutions practice for the Adobe Flash Platform, essentially a consulting role that helps enterprises evaluate the Flash system to see how it works in-house.

The consulting engagement takes several steps. First there's an orientation (either in-person or remote), a discovery phase (an audit of the company's network and challenges), and finally a plan is delivered in the form of an assessment report. Deployment follows and may or may not include software installation, since some companies will require a cloud-based approach. Employees are then trained, tests conducted on the new system, and MediaPlatform finishes with a presentation on next steps to take.

Installations often make use of MediaPlatform's software, including its custom media player, created using the Open Source Media Framework. It enables multicast fusion to reach the desktop with minimal impact on the network.

According to Pulier, the consulting process is often used by an in-house media team to secure funding for a move to the Adobe Flash Platform. That team might feel a move makes sense, but needs "ammunition," some kind of proof, to show their bosses. MediaPlatform's report can give them that proof. It's a hand-holding process, he says, designed to help enterprises dip a toe in the water and make an informed choice.
