The Boxee Box took a giant step forward today, as it's now able to stream movies instantly from Netflix. This is applies to users in both the United States and Canada.

This gives an the Boxee Box important parity with the Apple TV and Roku devices, and means that consumers no longer have to sacrifice Netflix if choosing Boxee.

"While we are bummed we couldn't get this out sooner, we're very happy to have the Netflix app just in time for Valentine's Day so our users can have a date night with their Boxee Box (and hopefully a significant other)," notes Boxee's vice president of marketing Andrew Kippen.

A Netflix unlimited streaming subscription costs $7.99 per month. Boxee gained Vudu support, for HD movies on-demand, in January.

"We are very pleased to expand the content accessible via the Boxee Box to include the movies, TV shows, and more offered by Netflix and Vudu" says Daniel Kelley, D-Link's associate vice president of consumer marketing, North America. D-Link manufactures the Boxee Box.

Boxee Box owners can manually update their firmware to access the Netflix app.
