Video Search Engine Blinkx Debuts Roku App

Owners of Roku set-top boxes now have a new way to look for streaming content: video search engine Blinkx has launched its own Roku app, available for free in the Roku Channel Store.

With the app, viewers can search for content from Blinkx's library of premium titles. Blinkx counts more than 720 partners and has indexed more than 35 million hours of video and audio.

Besides offering search, the Blinkx app also offers four channels for those who prefer to let Blinkx's editors do the work. The New channel offers breaking stories pulled from the Inform Me channel on the Blinkx website, while the Sports channel offers highlights and interviews. The Popular channel is an assortment of viral hits, including jaw-dropping human feats, while the Fun channel is a playlist of bloopers, stunts, and pranks (and cute animals).

"Roku recently hit more than 15 million channel downloads, in part due to our expanding selection of entertainment in the Roku Channel Store," says Jim Funk, vice president of business development at Roku. "With the addition of this new app to our growing content library, our customers will be able enjoy the rich online video content that Blinkx has to offer, directly from their TVs."
