Acorn TV Brings the Best of Britain to America

Feel like some Upstairs Downstairs? Or a cup of tea with an Agatha Christie mystery? Washington, D.C.-based Acorn Media has announced the launch of Acorn TV, a streaming service that delivers British mysteries and dramas to U.S. viewers.

Looking a bit like a PBS lineup from the 1970s, Acorn is offering Upstairs Downstairs, Brideshead Revisited, The Far Pavilions, Foyle's War, Agatha Christie's Poirot and The Forsyte Saga. This will mark the first time some of this content has been streamed.

Acorn is able to do this as it holds exclusive North American distribution rights to several U.K. programs.

Streaming the full content requires becoming an Acorn Premium member for $24.99 per year. The company has posted one season of six different program, with the first episode of each season free. Paid members get unlimited access to all the posted shows. Members also get free shipping on orders from the Acorn catalog and website.

Those interested can start a free trial, which lasts until August 31.

Available content will be refreshed each week, and each season of a show will be available for six weeks. Acorn promises that six seasons of shows, totaling more than 40 hours of content, will be available at any one time.
