Vimeo Introduces Music Store for Video Soundtracks
Video sharing site Vimeo is launching its own music store today, offering 45,000 tracks for use in online videos. The store emphasizes ease-of-use, letting creators quickly find appropriate tracks and download them.
The store includes three types of licenses on its tracks. Music either has a Creative Commons license (and is free to use), a personal license for non-commercial online use ($1.99 per track), or a commercial license for online use ($98 per track).
Vimeo has made it easy to find useful tracks, as users can search by genre or by metadata terms that describe tempo or mood. The store uses over 100 categories of metadata. Shoppers can describe exactly the instrument, tempo, and mood they need for a scene to zero in on the most appropriate tracks.
Vimeo is working with Audiosocket, which is delivering over 33,000 of the tracks. Another 11,000 come from Free Music Archive, which curates free and legal music for download.
"Finding music to use in your videos can be extremely hard," says Blake Whitman, vice president of creative development at Vimeo. "Music Store allows users to easily discover, download, and/or purchase tracks without ever needing to leave Vimeo."
