Verizon Will License Search Technology from Veveo

Veveo creates personalized search technology, and Verizon announced today that it will license that tech to offer enhanced on-demand program searching for viewers on TVs, phones, and tablets.

Verizon didn't disclose the dollar amount of the deal, which includes a nonexclusive license of some Veveo patents.

With the search technology in place, viewers will able to discover programs they want to watch on Verizon FIOS channels, video-on-demand, and DVR recordings. They'll then be able to view that content on their TV or mobile device. Veveo technology also lets viewers rate content for relevancy.

"Veveo is thrilled to extend our partnership with Verizon," says Murali Aravamudan, CEO of Veveo. "Verizon is aggressively developing integrated video entertainment solutions, and it is a natural extension for Veveo to facilitate personalized search and discovery experiences tailored to each unique customer.

Verizon's partnership with Veveo goes way back. In August, 2008, Veveo announced that it was extending a previous partnership with Verizon. In June of that year, Veveo powered more than 170 million video searches for FIOS TV customers.

Veveo is based in Andover, Massachusetts. Other partners include Comcast, AT&T, Nokia, DirecTV, Cablevision, and Rogers. It currently owns 30 patents and has 30 patent applications pending.
