Vevo Announces Six Original Shows at NewFront Presentation
Music video hub Vevo doesn't want to be known for music videos alone. At its newfront presentation today in New York City, the video giant (it's the third-largest video site, according to the latest comScore rankings) announced six upcoming original series. Like MTV before it, it seems, Vevo is expanding from music videos to long-form content. Viewers will be surprised to see Vevo producing reality and scripted humor series. Luckily, none of Vevo's shows involve beach houses.
Vevo's announced shows are:
- Busk or Bust: A reality show (Vevo's first) where contestants literally sing for their supper.
- Cover Stories: A humor series offering the not-so-true stories behind famous album covers.
- Hear Me Out: A dating show where potential dates are judged by their musical tastes.
- Sound + City: A show exploring the music scenes in various cities.
- Strange Island: A scripted comedy series about four hopefuls looking for fame.
- You Play Like a Girl: True stories of young girls hoping for careers in rock.
Besides the new shows, Vevo also launched its Vevo Certified program, a hall of fame award for videos that have reached over 100 million views. Vevo will announce the first inductees in the coming weeks.
