Sorenson Releases Sorenson Squeeze 9

Article Featured Image

On Monday, Sorenson Media will formally announce the latest version of its desktop encoding title, Squeeze 9, which is already available from the Sorenson site. Sorenson focuses on the experience this time, refining the interface to provide more usable information, while adding a preset for simple HTML5 video distribution.

With this release, Sorenson is giving Squeeze its first major facelift since version 6 in 2009. User interface improvements include a new color palette, simpler icons, and improved searching. Sorenson has refined the publishing workflow so that users can preview content prior to publishing, or change settings after encoding. The batch window has been reorganized to give more space to batch/watch folders, and its navigation is simpler.

The HTML5 improvement lets users drop an HTML5 present on to their file, then output two versions: an MP4 and a WebM file. They also get the HTML5 video tag coding needed for the web page. With that, users know their HTML5 video will play in all major browsers.

A new video stitching feature lets users add pre- or post-roll videos. Squeeze 9 also includes speed improvements, closed captioning support, and a refined review and approval process.

"We haven't made changes for changes' sake," says Sorenson CEO Peter Csathy. "We took the feedback that we received and made things better. The trick is to simplify without dumbing down the product, enhancing the power without putting it in your face."

Sorenson Squeeze 9 Standard lists for $799, or $999 for Squeeze Pro. Upgrade pricing is available.
