MediaPlatform: Executive Palmistry 2014

Article Featured Image

There are two significant trends developing in enterprise streaming media that will impact everyone involved in this space in 2014. First is the sector has finally begun to receive significant recognition from the major IT analyst firms. Gartner, Forrester and IDC are treating this industry not only as a marketplace whose time has come, but as a somewhat mature space with healthy revenue and a growing number of players. The excitement around enterprise streaming is generated by the growing interest, demand and requirements coming from almost every large enterprise in the world.

I also predict that 2014 will be the year of technology unification for streaming. Enough organizations have adopted webcasting software, video portals, distribution solutions and related tools to such a significant degree that they now need to combine many disparate solutions into a unified platform. Companies no longer want to deal with point solutions that may or may not integrate with their social platforms, LMS software, SSO solutions, etc. The demand and industry response will be to offer complete solutions for a company’s streaming media needs. This will include live event software, video portals, internal and external media distribution technologies, employee content creation tools, SSO integration, social platform integration (Microsoft Sharepoint, Jive, Yammer, etc.) and more. This trend will go hand and hand with Cloud-based implementations of these solutions in order to reduce costs, deployment time, and ongoing management requirements as well as to stay in line with the massive momentum of all of IT heading to the Cloud.
