10-bit
Computing occurs in 8-bit increments, or whole bytes. so the use of 10-bit technology is not widely used in computing, as it equals 1.25 bytes. The widest usage of the term “10-bit” refers to a color depth for higher-end video cameras and HD-SDI signaling. As analog content is converted to digital, 10-bit allows a maximum representation of 1024 different colors in a single color map. With RGB signals, where a 10-bit color map of up to 1024 different colors can be chosen for each of the three–red, green, and blue, respectively—there are 1.07 billion color choices.
