2K
The term 2K denotes the horizontal pixels on a computer monitor or consumer television set. Both 2K and 4K are measured by horizontal pixel count, while 720p and 1080P are measured by vertical pixel counts. As such, both 2K and 1080p have 1080 lines of vertical resolution, with 2K designated at 2048 x 1080 pixels based on the Digital Cinema Initiative’s designation of a 17:9 (1.85:1) ratio for digital cinema projection to be considered 2K. Due to the fact that consumer 16:9 (1.777:1) ratio based devices display less than a 5% resolution difference between 1080p and 2K display, 2K has primarily been used for projection within movie theaters.
